Simulated Impaired DriviNg Experience

SIDNE (pronounced like the city in Australia) is a battery powered vehicle that simulates the effects of impairment on a motorist's driving skills. It is made by Innocorp, the makers of Fatal Vision Goggles. We have used the goggles in many of our ThinkFirst programs since we began, and now we have a new and even more powerful tool to allow participants to understand the critical message to
avoid impaired driving.

SIDNE is being used by organizations across the country and around the world and we're thrilled to bring this program to you in 2009 through our new

ThinkFirst-Nevada S.I.D.N.E. Program

Here's how it works:

SIDNE has two modes; in Normal Mode, the steering, braking and acceleration respond appropriately to the driver's input.

Once switched to "Impaired Mode," the vehicle reacts with random delays and/or exaggerations in steering, braking and acceleration, simulating the effects of impairment from alcohol or other drugs on a motorist's driving skills.

Now, rather than just being told what can happen when choosing to drive impaired, you can experience it for yourself. SIDNE also allows for a passenger to ride along -- helping us teach another serious lesson. Many people, especially our teens, are killed or severely injured each year because they choose to get into a vehicle with an impaired driver. We believe after this experience, many more will choose to ThinkFirst and make the decision to secure alternative transportation.

Lives are at stake.

Make a difference.
